A writer who moved from London to Berlin.
In an effort to fit into this bohemian city, I am doing what most Berliners do – no, not lounging around drinking beer and eating brunch, but being creative (which necessarily involves lounging around drinking beer and eating brunch)…

Dear Englishman in Berlin,
Who are you? Do I know you? Just found your blog and had a browse – interesting posts, and a deal better written than your average blog.
I’ll be reading at the next Rage into the Night on 3rd June, maybe you’ll divulge your identity to me there. The following might just be of interest, though it’s not quite current any more – my take on the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall.

Hi Alistair
Very interesting article…
Look forward to your reading – I’ll come over and introduce myself!
Englishman
who is the bavarian…
the Bavarian is my husband! Yes, we finally made it though the maze of German bureaucracy and managed to get married in Berlin. The civil service went smoothly; I’m used to going through entire conversations just saying ‘ja’ or ‘nein’ so saying ‘ja’ at the right time was no problem although I unintentionally tuned out for a huge chunk of the Registrar’s spiel….
ah! congrats
Hey there, just found your site – nice work. If you’re ever interested in doing a guest post over at Slow Travel Berlin, let me know. Lots of our content seems to overlap somewhat. Happy to re-print and link back; also happy to meet up for beer / brunch and talk about how great Berlin is 🙂
Hi
Great blog – so interesting!

“but being creative (which necessarily involves lounging around drinking beer and eating brunch)…”
I could do that (apart from the being creative bit). 🙂
what a cool blog! On my blogroll now 🙂
thanks!
Hi. Thanks for following my blog – much obliged. I’ve always wanted to visit Berlin, so v interesting to read your blog.
Great – hope you get to visit soon!
Hello, Thanks for stopping by my little piece of blogosphere … Hope you enjoyed what you read. I find yours very interesting!
Madhvi, thanks for following my blog. I’d been to Berlin a number of times, but this past fall, I spent 9 weeks in the capital towards the end of my year around-the-world. Nothing prepared me for what I’d see, the great people I’d met, or the kinds of stories were being created and told. I’d already spent a couple of years living in Heidelberg and between 2003 and 2012, I’d been back to visit (friends throughout) Germany at least a dozen times. When I left Berlin, I concluded: nothing can prepare you for what awaits in the city, but nothing also prepares you for the loss when you leave. I miss Berlin very much, and so, I look forward to reading other people’s stories, which now includes yours.
Glad you had an interesting experience in Berlin – it’s a special place!
Really love your images and your blog!
I hope to go back to Berlin soon! Thanks again, Madhvi!
Thanks so much for visiting and following my blog! I appreciate it very much. 😀
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I appreciate it! Love your writing style!
I’m really enjoying your blog. Thank you for liking mine—in fact I blog in English (much more often) and in German also. The English blog is more important to me because of the virtual community (for my writing). Cheers from Prenzlauer Berg!
Really enjoying your blog too – so interesting! And always nice to come across another writer in Prenzluaer Berg!
Great blog! I was lucky enough to live in Berlin for 5 years and wish that I had known about blogging back then!! Looks like you are doing a great job reporting about this amazing and thriving city! 🙂
Thanks – not sure about doing a great job; I’m a lazy blogger!
Thank you for again liking my blog!
I’m really enjoying it!

I just love your site. I came across it through a Google search. How I envy you. I have never been to Germany (though I hope to remedy that one day), but I find it a fascinating country and I love the language. It features quite often in my writing. Keep blogging; it’s a tremendous joy to read.
Thanks! I hope you get the chance to come here soon!

that’s very nice – thank you!
I love your blog! What’s it like living in Berlin? I’m from NW England and I’ve been Berlin quite a few times and love the place. Always felt I’d love to live there (especially as I’m an arty person) but going on holiday and living in a place are totally different things so I was wondering what it’s really like? 🙂
Hey Nat, it’s interesting and fun, and sometimes infuriating! Little things about living in a different country are fascinating but weird. Altogether though, it’s a good experience, and I love the people and the vibe here. You should try it!
I can imagine it can be weird sometimes. Every country has its quirks with culture I suppose. I would love to live there. Been learning German for years but I really want to become fluent so I think the best way is to go and stay for longer than 2 weeks 😀 glad to hear you’re enjoying it. I look forward to seeing more of your posts. 🙂
